LIFE 24 December 1965: “Lilt of light and laughter. In a city surrounded by water, sunrise and sunset are twice-a-day hit show. A river of molten twilight makes a magnificent bubble bath for a chunky little tugboat. Switch on the moon or sun, turn up the street lamps, or throw an amber spotlight right on a pretty girl’s laughing face. The city loves all its lights and wears them well. Over Broadway they shed a gentle radiance on the face of Christ advertising a movie. But there are still dim places where kindly shadows invite romance or a friendly talk.”
